I grew up in Southern California with an affection for the missions. In recent years I've visited Mission San Juan and walked San Juan Capistrano Los Rios Historic District. The variety of plants, the feel of the air, the proximity to the ocean and the complexity of the history- all of this draws me in and connects me to myself and to place.
This painting series responds to time spent in western landscape, attending to the range of color throughout the hours of the day. Landscape and nature fuel my painting process, and these little works are about loosely capturing the essence of the land.
